Attorney Marilyn Kosin

With over thirty years of experience, Marilyn Kosin has earned a reputation as being able to present a case from beginning to conclusion, through trial or settlement, in the best oral and written manner to suit her client’s interests. Legal Experience

Marilyn grew up in Deerfield, Illinois to a public school teacher and federal government worker. She graduated from Grinnell College in Iowa in three and a half years as an Honors history major and then completed law school at the University of Iowa in two years. In college, Marilyn used her love of writing as the news editor of the Grinnell newspaper. At Iowa, she was elected to a one year term as chairperson of the Organization of Women Law Students and Staff, an organization that provided local individuals with legal assistance. Marilyn also learned courtroom skills as part of the law school’s Moot Court Board. Marilyn graduated with distinction in 1984 and returned to Chicago.

Marilyn’s writing skills allowed her to get her first job as a legal writing instructor at IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law where she taught first-year students legal research and writing. Marilyn then was hired as an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the City of Chicago’s Torts Division, the division which represented the City in personal injury cases involving city property. Marilyn was hired to address numerous traffic design defect cases the City had pending in the mid-1980’s. In addition to defending the City in cases at trial, Marilyn was responsible for preparing and arguing dispositive motions for other City attorneys.

To broaden her experience, Marilyn then worked in the business litigation field for two firms and gained experience in complex documentation depositions and financial matters. Marilyn also worked for one year in the law department of a confectionery and pharmaceutical company. Marilyn gained experience in licensing, marketing, sale and general corporate agreements, collection and contract matters.

MEMBERSHIPS AND PERSONAL ACTIVITIES

As a dedicated member of the legal community, Marilyn is a member of the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association. In addition to practicing law, since 2010 Marilyn has been an Arbitrator for the Cook County Circuit Court Mandatory Arbitration Program.

Having lived in the western suburbs since 1991, Marilyn has taken an active interest in the areas schools and sports activities for children. She was a board member and president of the Lyons Swim Club in LaGrange for many years. Marilyn also was a board member and then two-year president of the Lyons Township High School Community Advisory Counsel for community/high school forum issues.

Marilyn and David have two grown children who also reside in the Chicago area.
